Clarion Foundation President Karen Joy Fowler visiting UC San Diego

The Arthur C. Clarke Center for Human Imagination presents Clarion Foundation Board President, Karen Joy Fowler, who will speak to the Muir College Writing Program on Tuesday, November 17th at 5:00 PM in the Mariposa Room at Muir. Karen's novel, WE ARE ALL COMPLETELY BESIDE OURSELVES, is the book selection for Fall 2015 for the Muir Writing Program.
While Karen is in town she will also speak to the class of ETHN 182 - Race, Gender, and Sexuality in Fantasy and Science Fiction, as well as writing MFA students.
Karen Joy Fowler has written literary, contemporary, historical, and science fiction. Her short stories have won Nebula and World Fantasy awards. Her novels include SARAH CANARY and THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB. Her most recent novel, WE ARE ALL COMPLETELY BESIDE OURSELVES, won the 2013 PEN/Faulkner, the California Book Award, and was shortlisted for the 2014 Man Booker Award. She has taught at Stanford, UC Santa Cruz, and Cleveland State. Karen frequently teaches at the Clarion Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers' Workshop, and she is the president of the Clarion Foundation.
Applications for the Clarion Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers' Workshop will be accepted from December 1, 2015 - March 1, 2016. 2016 instructors include Kelly Link, Ted Chiang, Victor LaValle, Andy Duncan, Delia Sherman, and Ellen Kushner.
